Division to Unity Starts in Our Hearts!
The so called United States has never been more divided, except during the civil war.
What is it that divides us?
And, an even better question,
What will reunite us?
Gandhi said, “We must be the change we want to see in the world.“
If we want to have unity in our nation, we need to learn how to not be divisive. We need to stop making other people wrong for thinking differently.
Self righteousness is a disease. The need to make others wrong to feel smug about our own opinion really feels separating and lonely, especially when this happens with our families and friends.
Instead of thinking divided, we can choose to think in a more inclusive way.
The outer world is a collective hologram, a collection of our mind projections.
We can each do our part to change the world, by changing the way we think from division to unity.
How?
I propose, when we take sides, we are coming from only one side of our brain.
Each person has a dominant brain lobe, but that doesn’t mean their brain lobes cannot work together.
The right hemisphere of the brain is about our feelings, creativity, and compassion for others, and justice for all. It is our feminine side.
The left side of our brain is more rational, organized, proactive, and protective of freedom. It is our masculine side.
One of the two sides is more dominant in each person, but that doesn’t mean we cannot think whole thoughts.
Classic science often assumes our thoughts come from our brain patterns. Spiritual Psychology says it’s the other way around. The Soul’s intelligence rules the brain. We change our brain patterns when we change our consciousness. As conscious beings, we have the power to choose our thoughts, feelings, and behavior.
This means by integrating apparent opposite viewpoints along with your dominate perspective, you are activating your whole brain, as well as opening the door to better relationships with family, friends, and partners. Being more accepting of others viewpoints doesn’t have to mean agreement; it’s simply giving space for an alternative perspective to be entertained.
On the other hand, when we make others of the opposite dominant brain type wrong, we are operating from only one side of our own brain, while dismissing the other side of OURSELVES that also needs to be heard and integrated.
Note, the nerves from the brain cross to the opposite side of the body – so right brain dominate people tend to have a left leaning political view and left brain people tend to have a right leaning political view.
Nowhere is this divide between these two opposite sides of ourselves can be seen more polarized than in our United States two party political system.
The Democrats represent the feminine right brain type that is left leaning and more concerned about equality and justice for all.
The Republicans represent the masculine left brain type that is right leaning and more concerned about individual freedom.
As each becomes more extreme, the right brained democrats make more and more laws that render people dependent on a parasitic government, while the republicans eliminate regulation, allowing industry to destroy the earth.
To make the other wrong is a kind of mental illness that keeps our lives out of balance and in unnecessary conflict. The more extremely polarized we become against the opposite view, the more out of balance we become.
Being extremely polarized can even make one’s life unmanageable. Likewise the extreme polarization between the democrats and the republicans has rendered them unable to adequately manage our broken country. The real issues are not getting solved because there is little unity. We have a bipolar nation.
Opposite brain types attract each other, whether they be lovers or adversaries, and may argue because of their opposite views. But this need not happen.
We can be the change! We can realize our heart connections are more important than our opinions, because they are! Studies indicate most of our Soul force comes through our hearts. EKG readings indicate the heart’s intelligence is stronger than the brain, and is the the original source of the brain’s intelligence, In our hearts, we can feel our common humanity, and then our differing minds can find a way to work it out.
Coming from your heart instead of your perceived need to be right, you can be willing to listen, understand, and integrate opposite ways of thinking. The other person who thinks differently and seems to miss your side of the picture, can be seen as a gift, showing you parts of yourself you had refused to validate. Your only hope to be understood is to sincerely validate others perspectives first, which still does not mean you must agree. This opens the space for a possible mutual understanding, or at least respect for your perspective as well.
Bottom line, to find unity in ourselves, with our families, friends, and our nation we need to come from our hearts to be better listeners, more understanding of other’s opposite viewpoints, for they have something to teach us about ourselves to feel more whole.
Instead of being at each other’s throats, Freedom and Justice must stand united together to heal the divide in ourselves, our relationships, and our Nation.
By the way…Who will I be voting for this coming election? Robert F Kennedy JR, because he seems to be listening to both sides of the aisle, and he is running as an individual, not tied to the extreme division of our two political parties and corporate handouts. Instead of wasting energy badmouthing opposite viewpoints, he speaks directly how to resolve our broken country’s serious issues. May the most balanced person win!
And, when YOU choose to integrate the opposites in yourself, you can win your greater life!
